Mini Sessions

enchanting

fall portraits

for growing families who love to hold their portraits in their hands

You've been longing for charming portraits all year.

The simple beauty. The sweet smiles. The fragrant breeze.
Fall portraits are so wonderful.

And so nerve-racking.

I never understand which way to twirl, even with Nate's help.
One great way to ditch the nerves?
Make a mistake so many times it becomes funny.

Nate & Camry (that's us)

We're here to calm your nerves—
and make your dream of fall portraits on the wall a reality.

Your family's portraits should be simple, charming, and something you can touch. That's why we kickstart your first gallery with a complimentary 16x20 framed print, canvas, or acrylic.

Our job is done when your portraits, whether in your hands or on the wall, remind you daily of the reasons your life is worth living.

Afraid smiling for the camera isn't as easy as it sounds?

You're not the only one.
Let's at least keep the process simple.

Fall portraits can be stressful.

One minute you're dreaming of the first leaves turning, subconsciously planning
to schedule a round of portraits during your favorite season. The next, you're debating
scratching the idea because, even though your husband would be on board,
how on earth would you corral the kids this year?

And anyway . . .

  • You want to finally see some artwork hung on the walls, but no photographer you've found makes that process simple.
  • This season's must-do list is already overflowing, and choosing a location for portraits will never become a priority. (Yet another detail so many photographers you've seen unfortunately leave up to you).
  • Do the kids even have one pair of pants without holes in them?

Choosing clothes? Coordinating schedules? Scouting locations? Managing attitudes?

In a few honest-with-yourself moments, your dream of charming fall portraits is pulverized by what feels like a logistical nightmare you simply don't have time to navigate—not without
dropping the ball somewhere else, at least.

Introducing

the Eagle Ridge Experience

(Mini Session style)

Shoring up the full lives of growing families . . .

. . . so Mom can savor the fall portrait experience,
Dad can delight in his family,
and all the kids can revel in the freedom the Eagle Ridge acreage offers.

step 1

prepare well

Shortly after reserving your session, we'll connect with you by phone and email to say hi and deliver our comprehensive online guide, How to Prepare Well. It's full of ideas and recommendations for polished, elegant, charming, flattering, sensible, and comfortable portraits.

step 2

enjoy your session

Come prepared to wander and explore your home away from home. We'll have a wonderful, relaxed time together as we lead you through a variety of simple poses at our beloved scenes, including Wildwood, East Orchard Gate, Red Maple, and Wood Pile.

step 3

view & order your
portraits virtually

Join us once more—this time on Zoom—to choose the digitals we promised,
and to match your very favorite portrait to your metal ornaments. Need homes for more portraits you love? Simple. We'll walk you through a variety of optional upgrades.

step 4

hold your art in your hands

4-6 weeks after your virtual reveal we’ll deliver your purchases and offer to install your wall art. Interested in joining our Testimonials page? We'll ask you a few questions and record your answers (probably on a cell phone).

The Portfolio

These are just a few of our favorite fall portraits (and other seasons, too).

Before: "I'm not excited about this. I'm not the selfie generation. I'm just going to stand there and smile
and hope it works, because I don't know how to angle or style myself like the kids do."

After: "I can't wait to come back again and simply enjoy the process. You made it so much fun for me!"

Hi, Friend.

We're Nate & Camry

Choosing your family photographer is a big deal.
Here are two reasons why you can trust us.
(Short on time? They're our history and our land.)

The lovely Rachel Saarela of Sparrow & Crown Photography joined us for an hour in August to take pictures of our family on our own land. Doesn't she do great work?

Our History

Everything we do is Kingdom work, whether making breakfast for the kids, maintaining our home for its ongoing use, or welcoming families like yours to the rich land God has given us. Our portrait work over the last decade has given us purpose and clarity. In all things, we long to glorify God's name and advance his kingdom on earth.

"He must become greater; I must become less."
(John 3:30)

New to this 4.5-acre slice of perfection in 2020, we told our realtor on the day we first set foot here that we'd give ourselves a year to adjust to multigenerational living (and caring for Camry's dad), and then we'd bring other people into the abundance of this land. Our family thrives here on the daily, and we long for you to discover that yours can, too.

As a husband-and-wife photography team we're imaginative and spontaneous, detail-oriented and disciplined. We set the tone for your session with our playful banter and intuitive encouragement, and simplify the (feels-so-arduous) process of getting your family's fall portraits into your home.

Our Land

Our home has something for everyone. Sure, it has all the same features of that fantastic park in your city: happy trees, open fields, glistening water, rustling grasses. But we have something no Three Rivers Park can offer, and which we always guarantee.

There's no one else here.

That "something for everyone" phrase, which probably made you want to throw up in your mouth a little bit, doesn't simply refer to the trees (great for shade, and background texture), fields (space for curious kids to roam), water (it is beautiful), and grasses (doesn't everybody want tall grasses in their pictures?). The "something" that's for everyone is this: privacy.

Every family who ever visits the Eagle Ridge acreage for portraits always has the land to themselves.

We lovingly call this land your home away from home because so much abundance can't only be ours.

Come for a morning session to enjoy fog over the pond, the sun rising over the orchard, and the optimistic chirping of birds delighted to see a new day.

Or come in the evening for warm sunshine on your cheeks, a gentle breeze turning the windmill, and kid-height pond grasses swaying at the water's edge.

We hope the seclusion of this place is as much a retreat for your family as it is for ours.

Looking for Fall Inspiration?

Whether you're a mom confident in your decision to go the fall portraits route,
or you're just here for some pretty pictures . . . this is a good place to be.

Our Boys’ Fall Portraits in a Backyard Leaf Pile

On a refreshing mid-October evening, our boys and I raced the sunset across the yard and delighted in the magic of crunching leaves.

Jake & Heidi’s Fall Portraits at Wildwood

When the temperatures drop and the leaves start to fall, we Minnesotans trade in our sandals for scarves. If there’s one place on the Eagle Ridge acreage where oversized scarves can both accentuate and match the environment, it’s Wildwood.

Jessie & Hannah’s Fall Portraits at the Red Maple

With 4.5 acres to explore, your family will find something to cherish. Our land and history rival the gorgeous parks other photographers have taken you to, so the search for an all-encompassing portrait experience ends here.

Here's what others have asked
before working with us.

Eagle Ridge Photography & Design finds its home at 5358 Darrow Ave NE in Buffalo, Minnesota—a little slice of perfection in the panoramic countryside of Wright County, about 45 minutes northwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Find us on a map right here.

We prioritize poses, angles, colors, and artistic details that are true-to-life expressions of your family’s unique spirit and charm. We deepen colors and contrast, but not to the extent your images feel stylized.

Your portrait session will include a mix of posed and playful prompts, like whispering, lifting, and snuggling. We’ll guide you through natural poses, with little tweaks along the way.

It’ll be so simple we're confident you’ll forget how apprehensive you were about having pictures taken.

We share our work in three primary locations.

  1. Browse our seasonal look books, which we affectionately call "View from Home". They're our favorite way to give you a virtual tour of the Eagle Ridge acreage. Download one or more for free at www.eagleridgephotography.com/look-book.
  2. View a wide selection of our favorite portraits on our Portfolio page. We've organized the images to show you the highlights of portraits through the seasons. (Want more context than the slideshow allows? Read our session recap blog posts here.)
  3. See how we decorate our own home with beloved wall art, albums, and keepsakes when you arrive for your session.

We going to go out on a limb and guess that you've been burned by a previous photographer.

If you have, then even as you're reading about the innumerable delights of choosing Eagle Ridge Photography & Design for your family's portraits, you're probably also remembering that other time when you thought you were about to get everything you wanted—you know, right before everything fell apart.

(Okay, maybe that's a bit extreme. Perhaps your other photographer ghosted you, or delivered images that left much to be desired, or took forever to respond to your messages.)

We offer a no-risk satisfaction guarantee because we are steadfast in our mission to delight your family. But what does that mean?

  • It means if you don't love your portraits, we'll gift you a second session to try again. And if you don't love those either, we'll refund your session fee.
  • It also means we'll personally cover the replacement cost of your wall art, albums, and keepsakes in the event of an accident. Did one of your kids (or, let's be honest, it could be you) spill water all over your album? Did a framed print get knocked off the wall and crack? Did someone sit on a mounted print in your Easel Collection because it was left on the couch hidden under a blanket? Yeah, we'll replace those for you.

Forget everything you think you know about working with a family photographer. We're full-service. We’ll hold your hand through every step of the portrait process, and by the time we reach the end of it you’ll have memories from our acreage that will outlive your session—and you'll have the art to show for it.

Our Eagle Ridge Experience is a delight for your whole family.

The Eagle Ridge Experience is right for your family if you value the incomparable joy of printed portraits, and you yearn to hold them in your hands, see them on your walls, and give them as gifts to your family.

Do any of these resonate with you?

  • You welcome regular reminders of why you get up every morning.
  • You appreciate ongoing feelings of trust, generosity, empathy, connection, and safety within your family.
  • You enjoy watching your kids mature through new experiences.
  • You crave margin in your days to simply reflect on what you love about each person in your family.
  • You savor the wonder of memories—especially in light of how quickly the years pass.

We know you already know this, but it bears repeating: Portraits on your walls and in your hands fill all of those longings.

So set aside time for a mini session to relax into the portrait experience, delight in your family, and revel in the freedom of this land.

If your life needs more of all of this, then the Eagle Ridge Experience is right for you.

We hear this from so many of our families. And you know what? They end up being some of our favorite clients to work with.

Can we let you in on a secret? The first 20 minutes of your shoot are going to feel awkward. They feel like that for everybody. If you feel awkward, you’re normal. Let it go and enjoy each other’s company.

Throughout your session we'll be extremely clear, down to the tiniest details, about what you can do to look and feel natural. We won't let you mess this up.

Logistically, though?

It can be more than a simple "oops" and inconvenience when you find yourself without something you meant to bring but forgot (or didn't think you'd need).

We keep these things and more on hand so that not having something doesn't hinder your session: first aid kit, hair ties, bobby pins, comb & brush, lotion, bug spray, tissues, baby wipes, and simple snacks.

We'll teach you how to incorporate layers (including accessories), and encourage you to care for your skin and hair. We'll also walk you through what to bring and what to expect on the day of your session. And if you're longing for a fresh wardrobe, we can point you to a dozen boutiques in Buffalo and the surrounding cities.

You reveal is when we turn your dreams for a gallery into a tangible display that fits your home and your budget.

We'll lead you in refining ideas from your imagination to emphasize your favorite portraits. While we're together on Zoom, you’ll view your images for the first time and identify your favorites. You'll choose the digitals we promised and select the best portrait for your set of matching ornaments.

If you're determined to find a home for more of your portraits, we'll walk you through a variety of optional upgrades, all designed to furnish your home with reminders of what you love about your life.

If you opt for upgrades, by the end of the meeting you’ll officially decide which products to purchase and you’ll make your payment.

All decision makers should be present at the reveal. Products and images will be delivered when paid in full.

We do not deliver any raw files.

No. We spend time sifting through your whole collection so you can simply enjoy the best.

(We let a family be part of the culling process once, and it overwhelmed them within minutes. That's the opposite of helpful to you.)

We'd love to connect with you! You can reach Camry at (763) 445 - 9796 and at camry@eagleridgephotography.com.

Just think . . .

You're only weeks away from hanging your fall portraits on the wall,
or snuggling on the couch with your favorite people
and a hand-crafted album.

Let's make this process as simple as possible.

We get it.

Choosing your family's photographer has enduring consequences.

You've got a mental to-do list for the season that's growing more complicated by the day.
You're charting a new course through the school year,
delighting in kids who are another year older,
grateful for the moments of peace among your family.

Your plate and your heart are full.

Yes, you love the thought of fall portraits—
but you're afraid your investment won't be nearly as simple as you want it to be.
Navigating clothes, schedules, and attitudes has the potential to
exhaust your strength and discourage your spirit.

Take a deep breath.

It's entirely possible to enjoy fall portraits—from the beginning of the process to holding the final products in your hands.

As much as you may find it hard to believe, fall portraits on the Eagle Ridge acreage will
feel like the most natural thing in the world.
So set aside time to enjoy the abundance of this place,
unafraid of how your kids will behave and whether we'll get more than one or two nice pictures.

Forget everything you think you know about working with a family photographer.

We're full-service. We’ll hold your hand through every step of the portrait process,
and by the time we reach the end of it you’ll have memories from our acreage
that will outlive your session—and you'll have the art to show for it.

We won't let you mess this up.

Not quite ready?

It's normal to wonder what to expect from a photographer who's new to your family.
We know questions are on your mind and we're determined to help you put them to rest.

That's why we've created this guide to fall portraits on the Eagle Ridge acreage. It's a short PDF designed to introduce you to our heart behind natural family portraits, and give you a few practical examples of what to expect during your session. Type your email here and I'll send it over to you right away.
